Washing Series, Repelling

This topic cover repelling.

Why do cloth diapers repel, how can you prevent it and how do you fix it?

There are a few reasons why cloth diapers repel but in a nut shell it is due to build up of one type or another.

Laundry detergent (wrong kind or too much)
Fabric softener
Dryer sheets
Natural oils from fabrics
Diaper rash products
Hard water

How do you tell if your diapers are repelling? Do they absorb water or does it bead up and roll off?

Here is an article on repelling. Are your diapers really repelling?  How do you tell?

Here is one on trouble shooting leaky diapers.

And here is more trouble shooting.

Ok you are sure your diapers are repelling. You have checked everything else and you really are sure, now what?

Here is a hard chore article on repelling and how to deal with it. Warning, do not use a tooth brush or anything other than fingers to scrub your cloth, really please, just don't. Please just use your hands only. She has good warnings you should heed when using dish detergent in your washer, the sudsing can ruin your washer. Washers are not cheap, so play it safe and be smart. Also, please do not cut your diapers up just so they will absorb better, please, just please, there are better ways that are less destructive.
